The District Leader will be responsible for 3 Design Centers, while acting as the direct manager of 1 in the Greater Minneapolis Area.

Our District Design Mangers (DDM) achieves sales goals while maintaining satisfactory profit performance, gross margin, inventory levels, and customer service.  Tech-savvy, DDM maintains Design Center image through a planned merchandising program ensuring the Ethan Allen brand is consistent.  Achieve budgeted sales growth and establish a plan for continued improvement.  Leadership, cultivate an environment in which the staff is inspired to reach their fullest potential in relation to business growth.

  • Responsible for the overall management of the design center.
  • Perform all functions necessary for the development of sales and profits of the design center.
  • Review P&L statements monthly with Operations Controller.
  • Develop and participate in community programs which affect the design center, the district, and the company.
  • Supervise and evaluate activities of all management within assigned district, providing advice, counsel and guidance, leadership, motivation, and accountability for performance.  Complete performance appraisals in accordance with company policy.
  • Implement company policies and procedures.  Monitor compliance and help management hold all staff accountable for compliance.
  • Provide training for management and assist them with the development of their team.
  • Prepare monthly and annual sales budgets and forecasts for the design center.
  • Participate in the determination of district market potential, the preparation of district expense estimates, and the development of proper financial and asset controls.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for changes and improvements in policy affecting  the design center..
  • Develop annual operational, capital, and advertising plans and budgets.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation of inventories as conducted and reported.
  • Propose innovative strategies that support growth and improvement of the business.


Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:


BA or BS degree in Business and/or Interior Design with courses in such areas as accounting, economics, management, or similar courses.


  • Five or more years in retail sales management and merchandising.  Experienced in budget forecasting, monitoring and preparation of financial reports, managing sales growth, and procuring profits.  Supervisory experience required.  Multi store management experience preferred.
  • Other Requirements:  An entrepreneurial attitude and approach with excellent business sense.  Ability to effectively communicate and motivate people.  Must be accessible to associates on holidays, weekends, and evenings as the business demands.  Travel within the district is required as well as limited overnight travel.  Strong leadership and business development.
