Position Summary:

Oversee the day to day operations and performance of the 450,000 square foot distribution center in Pine Valley, NC.  Lead a team of distribution center associates in all general distribution related activities such as order processing, receiving, picking, customer service, inventory control, staffing, inbound/outbound transportation, facilities management, scheduling, and load planning.  Heavy focus on maximizing outbound shipments to meet revenue projections.  Provide direction, planning and motivation to reach the highest levels of service while keeping expenses aligned with corporate objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily load planning and scheduling for inbound and outbound shipments, ensure outbound freight is tendered.  Ensure all UPS direct to consumer shipments are processed in accordance to standardized release schedules and procedures to ensure timely movement to customers.  Manage government contract programs such as State Department scheduling and fulfillment.
  • Manage daily labor demand planning to balance warehouse workload between activities such as receiving, picking, and shipping.
  • Provide direction, motivation, and support to a diverse support team while fostering a hands-on management style through leading by example.
  • Direct supervision includes all distribution center staff such as receiving, picking, loading, and administrative associates.
  • Provide excellent customer service, problem solving, and communication between company departments, divisions, and external Ethan Allen customers.
  • Maintain the integrity of the inventory through adhering to inventory control guidelines, managing Overs Shorts & Damages, and reducing inventory variances.  Monitor storage capacity levels and ensure products are safely stored at all times.  Ensure that distressed inventory and freight claims are followed through to resolution.
  • Maintain focus on employee relations, training, cost reduction, safety, continuous improvement, service level objectives, and staff skill levels.
  • Support other Distribution Centers, manufacturing facilities, and warehouses to ensure success of the overall supply chain.
  • Assist with day to day HR activities and initiatives to insure all areas remain in compliance and meet state and federal guidelines as directed by corporate headquarters.  Comply with all C-TPAT certification requirements.
  • Develop standards, routines, and cross training programs to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the operations.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and clean work environment for employees.  Work with Maintenance Supervisor on capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and general facilities needs.
  • Participate in all physical inventories and their reconciliation.
  • Provide training and guidance to all staff on critical job functions and safety practices.
  • Maintain work schedules and resource allocation making necessary changes to ensure that priorities are met.
  • Evaluate performance of all warehouse personnel, issue verbal and written warnings when appropriate, execute discharge of warehouse employees when necessary.  Complete performance appraisals in accordance with company policy.
  • Develop standards, routines, and cross training programs to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the operations.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

 

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment, including at least five years at a Distribution Center management level.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), leadership, organization, customer service, time management, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Analytical skills required, including frequent problem solving.
  • Must have extensive knowledge as to how to operate forklifts, platform lifts, and clamp trucks.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Outlook and Excel. Extensive experience using ERP systems and barcode processing for order and inventory management; AS/400 (JD Edwards) operating system is highly desired.
  • The ability to travel up to 5% visiting other distribution centers, warehouses, and headquarters.
