Position Summary:

Responsible for product management of new and existing products for Case goods, but not limited to: assist the product development process, identify assortment needs, editing of the assortments, developing strategic business plans, and marketing strategies.  The Product Manager is responsible for product planning and product marketing. This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and requirement, assisting with the product vision, and working closely with Design and Merchandising to deliver on-brand merchandising assortment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute yearly business plans for all programs, including product assortment, pricing, margin, stock management, design center samples, and marketing strategies, inclusive of internet/E-Commerce enhancements.
  • Take the leadership role on SKU development initiatives.
  • Develop retail communications strategies to inform managers about products and provide sales training and product knowledge.
  • Develop strategic marketing promotions to optimize volume.
  • Serve as in-house subject matter expert (SME) on the product categories and acquire extensive knowledge with respect to the competition.
  • Help maintain product development timelines from samplings to final production.
  • Communicate with all vendors regarding vendor agreements, pricing, terms, forecasting lead times for sampling and production.
  • Collaborate with Style, Store Planning, Merchandising, Product Design, and Advertising departments during product development procurement, floor display/sampling, and print selection.
  • Develop comprehensive assortment plans that support breadth, depth, price points, target costs, and SKU/sales allocation for each category. Merchandise the entire product line to ensure an intuitive presentation of categories and opening price point to upper-end aesthetics.
  • Provide product line analysis; SKU management and productivity; and analysis of all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual data.
  • Understand and follow all compliance standards for Ethan Allen for all import and domestic vendors.
  • Lead the identification and assessment of product opportunities and translate into viable business assessments.
  • Manage all aspects of packaging standards from samples to shippable formats.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Merchandising or similar field with minimum five (5) years experience working as a Product Manager for a nationwide retailer within the consumer goods sector.
  • Experience in home furnishings segment of merchandising is required.
  • Must possess strategic and analytical skills and demonstrated ability to select the right merchandise mix to meet or exceed customer needs and attain gross margin and profit goals.
  • Fashion-forward sensibility and ability to identify and capitalize on current trends.
  • Ability to foresee, interpret and rapidly respond to market changes by adjusting strategies and realigning priorities accordingly.
  • Strong business acumen, including product management, finance, and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive achievement of long-term strategic business goals, as well as short-term financial targets.
  • Exceptional team-building and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others to perform and achieve results.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical skills with software-based merchandising and analytical tools, including E-Commerce.
  • Must have strategic agility, organizational ability, and successful track record for building effective teams.
  • Think operationally and strategically, analyze issues, use sound judgment, generate new ideas, and go beyond the status quo.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and abroad, ranging up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability and willingness to work from Danbury, CT headquarters office
