Ethan Allen is seeking a Contract 3D Material / Render Artist to help produce high quality photo realistic materials. This talented person, working in Danbury, CT or in close proximity to our Orleans, VT and Maiden, NC Manufacturing facilities or one of our nationwide design centers, will join a team of 3D artists committed to exciting photo-real projects. Must have experience working in a technical 3D team focused on product visualization. This role requires a great eye for what makes a texture realistic. Ideal candidates will have a background in 3D visualization with an understanding of upholstery materials (jacquards, wovens, leathers, etc.) and wood finishes (glazing, distressing & wood grains). This artist will be key to the team’s ability to scale and evolve with the business needs.  Successful applicant will be highly driven, and able to prioritize work as business needs change.

Position Overview:

  • Collaborate with Photo Studio, Manufacturing, 3D Modeling, and Creative teams to output high quality materials, develop standards, implement best practices, solve creative & technical problems, and meet deadlines collaboratively.
  • Build and maintain internal PBR material library. Assist with maintaining technical and quality standards.
  • Create organized material workflows in Substance Designer and Painter.
  • Solve production challenges with creative solutions.
  • Organize and upload files according to department standards.
  • Document production workflows.

Job Requirements

 

  • 6+ years working in the 3D Industry with 3+ years working as a texture artist.
  • Expertise creating photoreal 3D assets.
  • Expert knowledge of V-Ray materials.
  • Strong understanding of PBR materials and workflows.
  • Expert knowledge of Substance Designer and Painter workflows.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
  • Ability to build materials from detailed concepts or a single photograph.
  • Solid understanding of surface/light interactions.
  • Strong Lighting/Rendering skills is a plus.
  • Ability to unwrap UVs for texturing meshes and lightmaps in 3ds Max.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to explain procedures & processes to non-tech savvy business stake holders.
  • Able to build relationships at all levels in the organization.
